Thank you for enrolling at Generation Dance.

We are sure you are going to love your time with us!

Here's some more information for you....

New students

Once enrolled please be sure to read our STUDIO POLICIES (including our UNIFORM POLICY). Students are required to be in correct uniform for their classes after their trial classes. For their trial students can either wear dancewear and dance shoes they already own or comfortable clothes easy to dance in and socks.

Please view our CALENDAR and record all important performance dates, closure dates and term dates.

Your enrolment will be confirmed by our office staff within 48 hours of submitting online. If you haven't received a confirmation email by then, please contact our office. If the next class is before the 48 hour period, please call or email so we can fast track your enrolment. New students may not attend a class without completing an enrolment.

You will receive an invoice for fees once your enrolment has been confirmed, this is an automatic process. New students do NOT need to pay their invoice until AFTER completing their free trial lesson. You must let us know if you will not be continuing after your trial class so we know to remove your child's enrolment, which allows another child to join the class and also cancels your invoice.

If you have any questions regarding your child's lessons at any stage please contact our office, which is open Tuesday to Saturday 9am to 1pm. We are here to help!

If you're coming to your first trial lesson please remember the following -

  • Arrive at least 5 minutes early, especially for Pre School classes. Once the studio door is closed and the class has started it is very hard to welcome any new students in to the class and their first experience may not be as fantastic as it should be!

  • There is no need to have uniform for their first trial class.

  • All children are different and some may take a few weeks to start participating in the full class. If your child seems to be watching and not fully participating, they will when they're ready and if they're not upset or a distraction to the other members of class they are still welcome. We sometimes have students who won't move in class for 6 months but then they don't stop dancing for years to come!

  • We prefer for parents to remain outside of the studio and encourage independence with students bringing in their own drink bottles and shoes.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Students are asked to arrive to their lesson at least 10 minutes early to prepare for their lesson. Students must be waiting in the Dancer's Den ready to be called in for class. Students are not permitted to enter the studios if the class before them is still running.

Pre School students are also asked to utilise the Dancer's Den to wait for class, this eases congestion in our foyer.

We do not have access to any on site car parking at the studio. Parents are asked to utilise the street parking, which can be heavily congested in the mornings. Please allow time to find a park. By 4pm street parking is very easy. Please DO NOT park in other business carparks unless you have saught permission from the business owner.

Our administration team is available in the office, during office hours. After hours you may call the senior teacher on duty out of class by ringing the bell on the front desk. This is only to be done if the matter is urgent as the teacher will have to leave their class. Parents are not to enter the dance studios to talk to teachers. Teachers will try and make themselves available in between classes for any urgent matters.

All absentees must be SMS'd to 0412 089 457 so they are seen. Email is not always checked before afternoon classes have started so your notice of absentee could be missed if emailed without enough warning.

Studios are open 15 minutes prior to classes commencing for the morning or afternoon. Please ensure students are picked up on time as teachers cannot be expected to wait for you to collect your child.

Students are always required to be in uniform. Grooming is very important at Generation Dance "If you look like a dancer, you will feel like a dancer". Teachers will enforce correct uniform and grooming so please follow the UNIFORM POLICY.

Students are not permitted to leave class except to use the toilet. All students must go to the toilet before their class starts to avoid disruption (especially younger students). If your child is not old enough to go to the toilet on their own a parent must stay at the studio incase they need to use the toilet.

Please keep our studios clean and tidy and dispose of rubbish in the bins provided. Food is not allowed inside the dance studios.

Parents are only permitted to watch class if a teacher has asked them to. New RSD students may have 1 parent with them until they are settled in the class but please be aware this can cause disruption to other members of the class so we encourage no parents inside the dance studios.

If there are ever any concerns regarding your child and Generation Dance you are encouraged to contact the Director or office staff at least 24 hours after the issue has arisen. We follow a strict '24 hour' rule which gives teachers time to follow studio policy and notify and report to the owner, everyone time to process, reflect, de brief and then if needed all parties can calmly discuss what happened and work together to find a solution to resolves the matter.

We welcome all feedback, preferably in a constructive or positive manner and at an appropriate time.

Performances, Examinations and Competitions

MID YEAR DISPLAY - We hold a MYD at the end of Term 2 each year. This give parents, families and friends an opportunity to see the student's progress and what they have been learning in classes in terms 1 & 2. This performance is casual and fun, it is mainly syllabus work and no costumes are required. This is a great way to introduce new students to performing on stage in front of any audience.

SHOWCASE - This is a large performance showcasing the whole school. It is a "themed" show in 4 highly entertaining acts with all students showcased on stage and includes costumes, props, lighting and projection. It is very entertaining and family friends, it is also a fantastic way to end the dancing year! Ready Set Dance students perform in their own Showcase, seperate to the main Showcase. The Showcase preparations start in Term 3 when all students must pay their showcase participation levy, return their participation form and pay for costume hire.

EXAMINATIONS - We offer AICD ballet examinations from the age of 6 (Pre Primary). We also offer ATOD Tap and Jazz exams from the age of 6. This syllabus work is taught in the exam technique classes. Successful exam candidates receive a report, certificate and a medal and it is a very rewarding experience and a fantastic way to document your child's dancing journey. Exams are compulsory for those students in our Teacher Training Program and participating in our Extension & Performance Program.

EXTENSION & PERFORMANCE PROGRAM (EPP) - Our EPP program is for dancers ready to take their training to the next level. Dancers are invited into this program which runs from October to October. Please click HERE for more information on the EPP.

Costumes

Costumes are a huge part of a stage performance, with so much time and effort going into the concept, choreography, music, props and lighting that the costume just completes the overall stage experience. We hire all of our costumes from 'The Perfect Costume" which is a costume hire and sales company. Costume hire fees can range from $27.50 to $49.50 depending on the costume. and how many times it is worn within the calendar year.
